Dombivli is truly fantastic !! Though around 45 kms from Mumbai town , it has developed quite a lot and its great . From Scratch to what it is now is really commendable . People staying in Thane and Mulund often claim their towns to be more developed . But does physical development only count . Dombivli has 95+ literacy , one of the few towns in India to have so much . Nowadays even multinational firms are beginning to have their branches in Dombivli . As a resident of Dombivli , I am fully aware of the electricity , water shortages in the town . Still Dombivli jaisi city koi bhi nahi . Dombivli has the best theatres in the area . Its because of Dombivli's economy strength that Kalyan Municipal Council is running on ! Otherwise what does Kalyan have ??? I am proud to be a Dombivliite .

I along with a few friends here in NJ have been a resident of Dombivali since the last 32 years before we came here. We do visit Dombi. atleast once a year. I am glad that there are persons who like Dombi., but I have come across people who only hate dombi. Frankly, I have to agree with them. There has been absolutely no progress over the past many years. The townhall (muncipality) is completely corrupt, the MSEB charges for not providing electricity, the traffic is horrible, the rickshawallas are very rude. Dombi. has become a place for lodging & boarding. No places to go out. Teenagers go to bars to drink (their idea of the only fun possible) ad ofcourse cheap dance bars springing all over dombi. Check the noise, traffic pollution in Dombi. Any reasons to love Dombi.

I went to Dhanaji Nanaji (DNC) High School and I believe that the schools, city, and my family raised me really well and equipped me with all the skills I have today. When I teach undergrads, masters and PhD students in the US today, I can only look back and say Dombivli must have done many things right for me and I am sure all of you can say that if you were also raised in Dombivli. When we shifted to Dombivli in 1971, it was a village of 7000 heads. Old fashion bunglows, wide streets, wells(vihiri), almost everybody knows others. Now it is chaos. No planning, corrupt civic officials. It took 5 years to build a overbringe 250 m long (I think still under construction). Heavy pollution- all medical shops do thriving business (one way of becoming rich is open medical shop in Dombivli). Rickshas put in adulterated petrol-kerosene near MIDC, while police stand guard outside. Horns! Different types,all the time. But culturally rich, all friendly, educated, well behaved people. I would like to bring my old town back. Not possible due to the goondas who have taken various forms of corrupt public officials, politicians, short sighted self proclaimed leaders. If there is an organization where we, NRIs can donate for welfare of Dombivli, please let us know on this thread. Best Regards to all old Dombivalikars

Guys ..I am born and raised in Dombivli ..Studied in MES..and so on so forth ..now I am in NJ-NY ...every time I come to Dombivli ..once in 2 years ..I feel things are not the same as it used to be .. for example ..just 6 years ago ..in 1997 I used to fly kites and see lots of kites flying ..play cricket in Nehru Maidan ..just do things that usual guy would do ..now I see my brother growing ..half of the time he spends on internet chatting ..and other half he spends hanging around those Naakass ..I feel sad that no more we have retained our old way of enjoying simple life ..neither on the other hand we have the polishness of a real city guy, ..some where we are in middle ..Living in US for 5 years now I really understand what "Quality of LIFE" means ..sadly I can never get that life in Dombivli ..I understand that and it is my call to come back and stay with parents ..but now when I have my own son ..I am really concerned with the kind of schools we have ..with the kinda os sports facilities we have in dombivli..there are chances that staying in Dombivli he mighty study very well ..and happen to join IIT ..but the chances of he enjoying a good quality of life is very minimal.Plus now after staying in US for 5 years ..I am so used to go to work in Car..I know it does not matter ..when I come back to Dombivli ..I will have to take the Train to go to work ..which frankly speaking I would never want to do .. My sincere opinion ..though how much ever I love Dombivli ..thinking pragmatically ..I would want to settle in a city where I have access to all the facilities, where though not the same like US ..atleast I can have a better standard of life..Even if I come back to dombivli with good money ..I know I will be unhappy now ..because I now have the awareness what sort of life people live in good places..my life before coming to US was like a school timetable ..getting up early morning at 7:00 --coming back home at 9:00 ..with some much dirt and sweat it was a normal life for me ..until I saw what life is in US..Even if I come back from work at 8:00 now in US ..I still have the freedom and facility to Play Tennis ..Swim ..etc ..Which has become an essential part of my life .. I want my Son to do all these things in life ..which franbkly speaking ..he can never do as long as we stay in Dombivli.. So in short Dombivli is still a place which I will always like for emotional reasons ..but practially speaking there is nothing there for me now to live a meaning full life. HJ

I love Dombivli like my family. Its very dear to me.What not u get over here ?? Right from poli-bhaji to any latest PCs , we get everything, & that also at a nearby place. I love about everything,phadke road,theatres,ganapati temple,manpada road,Dombivli kakubais,.... I mean everything. But once thing, we also have to take initiative in developing this Suburb into a MOST FAVOURABLE PLACE to live in. For this some Development projects has to be taken by the KDMCorporation.Provide some Amusement park, similar to ESSEL world can be built at Dombivli -west near Creek area.Some good housing complexes needs to be build, & also some infrastructure needs to be provided for IT. Think some lakhs of our IT people daily travel to Seepz,Mahape IT park,Andheri ...,if the govt can provide some infrastructure over here itself at Dombivli, we can overall improve our standard of living. As IT has reached in villages, software Parks spread across all over India, Then why not in DOMBIVLI. Dombivli can provide u enormous amount of Talent, hardworking people... what else u want. I must agree with HJ. I have been in Dombi. for 33 years and have been staying in Boston for sometime. Some of you did call him traitor and rebuked him for expressing his views. Not liking Dombi. (where you are born and raised) does not make you traitor. It just shows disappointment with the way things are there. I would also not like my kids to be raised in Dombi. now. I have purchased a flat in Thane, just because I was fed up of the rickshawwallas, the bhaiyya's and the population density, not that these problems are not present in Thane, but it is better organized than Dombi. Also someone was saying that we should be proud of the 100% literacy. What has this literate population done to improve Dombi. The literate population simply stays holed up in their homes or go to some naka for chaha. You can be emotional about your birth city, but reality must sink-in also. Ofcourse weasling out of the problem (like me) can-not make Dombi better., but when I was there I did try, got frustrated and left Dombi.

I should say that Dombivli is one mindblowing place to live in.All my schooling and a part of my college life has been spent in Dombivli.What more can i say about this blessed place!It has provided me the Kapdaa & Makaan.I would be glad if this highly literate city comes up with offices and organisations that can provide us jobs and thus the 'Roti' for daily subsistence.I give a damn about all those ex-Dombivlikars who now living in different places in the world,criticise their home-Dombivli for what it is today.And these are the same people,who once used to have fun at chaay taprees and dance bars which they now claim as cheap and sub-standard.Arrey bevakoofon,duniya kaa aur kaunsaa sheher tumko sui se lekar Sony Music system tak,ek hee chath ke neechey de sakthaa hai?All said and done,Maajhi Dombivli is one cool place to stay and spend your entire life.Great going my Mathrubhoomi! My name is Gagan Gupta. I was working for Sohonet India in Jhansi (UP). For this stupid company I had left my job in New Delhi. Since i was too confident in the company, so me & my friend Ravindra shrivastava took an agency of sohonet from mr. arvind at delhi. We had sold about 20-25 packs, worth Rs. 1,32,000/- in Jhansi & we got only 5% of it. With a bad response of this stupid company, all the localides of jhansi came to our home & started creating scenes. Me & my family members were so frustrated with this that we decided (or say we had to ) return all the money from our pocket, & we are still paying to some gundas till now. NEW NO.7, OLD NO.5 THIRUMUGAN STREET CHROMEPET CHENNAI - 600 044 PHONE : 55296571. I invested Rs.80,000/- for an assembled computer. Promised to give regular job work. I had started work with him from 1998. I not only lost my Rs.80,000/-, I have not received for the job work done for Rs.15,000/- till date. Quite surprisingly, his office colleagues and security will never allow you to go inside the office. His long association of staffs names are 1. dhandapani, 2. sundar, 3. ramakrishnan, etc. We should first arrest the above staffs who are working with him for such a long time. Their lot of promises are in vain: viz. Y2K job work, Medical Transcriptinist, Free training programme, etc. Mr. Raj sold his assembled computer (TVS Keyboard, Logitech Mouse, HCL Monitor, etc.) for Rs.80,000/-, whereas its actually cost would be less than Rs.40,000/- during that period. Now it is very clear that Mr. RAJ is not going to pay our money. Sir, I was forced to quit my regular job as my both old parents were very seriously ill and I was required to nurse them. When I came across the ad. of Sohonet I thanked god that I can still earn something at the age of 54 years, sitting at home and taking care of my parents too. I purchased their pack @Rs. 4000 during Aug'2002 and they send me the job by end Nov'2002. I completed the work within 40 days by spending 10-15 hours before computer. But after few months instaed of sending me my payment they send me three packs to sell @5000 and recover my payment. With great difficulty I could sell these packs to Sohonet agent @ 1000 per pack.My efforts of 40 days were only worth Rs. 3000! Thereafter Sohonet never sent me any more job work. After repeated follow up I received their letter that My regisateration no. has changed and I have to get my identity proof from Local Bank. I sent all the necessary documents but till date no jobwork has come. Now going through this website I find I am not the only person, who was cheated by Sohonet but there are many more victims of Sohonet fraud who did not receive anything from Sohonet. The problem is all the RBAs of Sohonet are helpless unemployed people with very little resources. Therefore Sohonet can go scottfree by cheating them. There are many such fraud company like sohonet publish their ad and try to lure the unemployed educated people. This forum should try to raise voice to punish these crooks. I registered with SOHONET way back in 2001.That time i received a password of some sorts and that was all. I was unable to register online and my repeated mails to them didn't solve any. I was opting for some further courses so I just left it like that. It is good that justice has been done. As a struggling student sum of Rs. 500 was a big amount for me.

I am a victim of Sohonetindia. Paid them Rs. 7000/- last August and got only one lot of jobwork. No further jobwork came nor did my hard earned money of Rs. 7000/- They have changed their address recently. Their website is still functional. Their MD who was arrested recently is out on bail. Hope the Crime Branch Mumbai takes stringent action against him. He can't be allowed to go free after cheating a great number of people.

I also received a similar letter recently. It stated that I've just won 1M USD but then I have to pay the courier 550 euros to make the necessary arrangements for the tranfer of my winnings. I became suspicious when they blocked all my requests to charge the courier cost to my winings. I don't believe this is real, it's just a scam by some stupid people.

They have no valid reference source, no identification of origin, not even a website to inform you of their organizationn...no proof whatsoever, but a hefty upfront payment requirement. I have received similar email from somebody named Ana Lopez and they told me about winning a lottery with all this mix of numbers and many things and they gave banco banesto madrid de espana . Of course it is good to believe ones luck but it is just unfortunate dreamuing should stop somewhere. This chain of unverifiable winning and so gives false opinion and promises but it is for sure a tension relief.... I feel sorry about what he did for the society of India. I used to work with him during that period. We should be very careful with these type of crooks. I also received an email saying I won 1,5 million Euro. I was required to send them my bank account details (which of course I did not release). At the very end I told them I did not wont a bank transer and that I preferred a cheque. I also told them I was going to be in the Madrid area the following week (cheating, of course) and that I would have taken my cheque personally. Strange...never heard from them again. Ps. I also managed to crack their mail password and replied to all their contacts saying it was a fraude. I really feel like robin hood, ain't I?? haha ;) Let's (virtually) hang the bad guys!

You can't be a winner in a contest you haven't entered. It just doesn't happen that way. When I received that e-mail, poorly written by the way, I thought I'd really lucked out, until I did a search and realized I'd won nothing. Flim Flam artists is all they are, plain and simple.

I read all of your comments and it seems that all of your winning letters are from 2004. About six days ago I received the same letter from the address of 3b Olympic Way,Sefton Business Park,Aintree,Liverpool,L30 1RD. They say I won 1,400,000.00 GBP. What threw up the red flag was when they tried to charge me courier charges of 85.00pounds,administrative charges of 110.00pounds,and insurance charges of 220.00pounds. All charges, (you should know if your an experienced sweepstakes player), that would be handled by the promotions department.I have been doing a little research and I have come across another prosecuted case that is similar only using wire fraud. United States v.Oneil(1976,Docket#96-1623.Then I read about S.G.P. Raj arrested. I was wondering if these could all be one and the same people operating again?

More than I miss the city, I miss the peole in dombivli...so warm, courteous and intelligent too...always helpful...god, i wish people were like that in the US too...Miss dombivli...and india, of course!

Welcome to Dombivli. Satellite suburb of Bombay (Mumbai). Dombivli is famous for dense population and highest number of engineers staying in the city. The attraction of the city is Phadke road on Diwali (important festival of Hindu religion) days. It is a city with highest percentage of literacy in the world. Which really makes it stand apart from any other cities not only in India. Dombivli is well known for its tradition and culture. People here are very much attached to their values. It is one of the most tolerant suburb in mumbai with very negligible history of riots.

In 1997 we purchased flat in Village Nandivli. Ttat time Nandivli was part of KDMC. Although, the place was not developed, we purchased flat looking at future plans of KDMC in this area. But suddenly, Maharastra Govt. took foolish decision to separate this area from KDMC. Again people thoght that now we can progress faster, as money earned will be used only for this area. But even after long duration is passed, so far there is no goverment body takes care of this area. We are facing, electricity, water shortages. Roads are worst than any backward village. There is no police station. There is no KDMC bus service in this area. It is available only upto Nala. Stray dogs is the big problen in Dombivli, Many of us goes early in the morning to office, but we have to face barking of dogs. Now there will be elections. Again there will be new promises. I request all the contestors to understand the situation and help your voters.

I've stayed in NY too; seen the racial abuse there, thankful that I've never been subjected to it, but I know the humiliation that an Indian could be subjected to when out of India... So koopmandook n all's jus fine, but izzat to hai !! NY lacks soul, tht's for sure! Dombivli (and NOT Domboli) has it all - culture, beauty, crowds, and a heart ... at the heart of it all - we the Dombivlikars !!

Hi, I am Resident of Dombivli and new to this igroup. I have read all the " Mixed Reactions" about my place from all you peoples. For me Dombivli is a city with lot of potential to improve. It has got a literacy touching 95s, meaning a lot of sensible people in there. The chances of improvement seem to be great. I think all the peoples in love with dombivli and all those who hate dombivli have the same goal, i.e. an improved lifestyle in the town. This is possible only if we all act in a way that would make our goal come true. This can be possible if all the peoples come together and start doing things that are needed the most´, like cleaning own localities and such. This is possible by making some organizations. Everything would be possible if people come together and work towards things.This would be a suggestion, if anyone has any other ideas, i request them to share those with others.
